![]() ![]() ![]() In Redfall, the vampires partially stem from a science experiment gone wrong. That's important because Redfall's premise allows Arkane to get even more experimental with its special enemies than Left 4 Dead. Vampires may behave differently from other undead, but notably, Redfall will still have a system of variants similar to Left 4 Dead's Special Infected. Players will find themselves battling vampires on the streets of Redfall, meaning they may face much more intelligent foes than Left 4 Dead's zombie hordes. ![]() Redfall also has a different take on enemies. ![]() Layla Ellison wields various magical powers, Jacob Boyer is a master sharpshooter, and so on. Redfall is a team-based FPS that proudly takes inspiration from Left 4 Dead it leans into Left 4 Dead's team shooter concept by giving players different characters with different skills to choose from. I would very much like to read more (about these characters specifically) and am looking forward to future works were I can discover new horizons within the world that Downe has crafted.Although Arkane Studios have shown no gameplay of Redfall so far, it has provided enough information about the game to get a relatively clear picture of its gameplay. In terms of construction, I felt that the tale did shift unexpectedly in the early to middle sections, as the focus shifted from a little girl to her father, but in the end, I can see some plausible reasons as to why Downe would choose to do this.Īll in all, a very solid tale. In terms of editing, there were a few minor missteps here and there, but the grammatical gaffs were nothing so great as to disrupt the greater story. I found the tale unique, engaging, and the characters were folks that I wanted to know more about. I read Redfall before the first book in the series and I am very glad I did. A very evocative piece, Redfall immediately immerses you inside its slightly different fantasy world - and it is something to be glad about. It is a shame that Amazon does not allow half stars on its reviews, because this book definitely warrants 4.5 stars. ![]()
